jenny schneider's 1968 XR7

Jenny Schneider, who lives in Ormond Beach, and is an officer manager at a tile company, says her passion for Cougars' goes back to when she was a little girl. Her oldest brother owned a 1967 XR7, and it was the fastest car in Salina, Kansas. Her dad, who also owned an XR7, bought her an '89 when she graduated from Kansas State. But she was determined to have a classic, and in January, 2001 she purchased Sweetie, this Polar White, daily driven 1968 XR7.

Jenny's '68 is 302-4V-powered, and features Hedman headers flowing through dual exhaust's. The tranny is a C4. The front brakes are disc's. And the styled steel wheels are surrounded by Goodyear Wingfoot tires.

Since the purchase, Jenny has replaced the headliner, the vinyl top, done some body work and paint, and upgraded the alternator. In the future there will be a completely new interior.

Jenny's first car show was the 2002 Eastern Nationals in Georgia. Someone suggested she enter it in the Daily Driver class. She said that it seemed as though EVERYONE entered that class, and if she had entered it in the 1968 XR7 class, she would have won a Second Place Award, since there was only one other car in the class!

Jenny's favorite story is about her engine fire. In her own words, here's what happened...Crew Chief (Gary) and I were going to his office to notarize some papers. Gary was driving the car. All of a sudden the car dies, and smoke starts billowing out the hood. Since I was the passenger, I opened the door, and took off running down the street. Gary handled the situation properly. He lifted the hood and blew out the fire! It started on the passenger side, and burned the entire harness. I was bummed. So Gary and I removed all the wires (labeling them as we went). That took about three hours. Then we took the harness to be duplicated. What an exciting day!
